2001 Winter was a record breaker with
respects to snowfall. This photo was taken April 13, 2001. A
series of winter storms hit eastern Newfoundland breaking all
previous accumulative snow fall records at 648.2 cm's (That's 255 inches
or 21 feet, which is more than the record totals for any other
major city in Canada!). Some drifts reached over 16 feet high, as
seen in the photo above.
Winter is a busy time all across Newfoundland for enthusiasts and
novices alike. Snowmobiling , Ice Fishing , Alpine (Downhill)
Skiing and Nordic (Cross-Country) Skiing, Snow-shoeing, or
Dogsledding adventures are all waiting for you to enjoy.
