Carbonear is located on Route 70, approximately 50 km from the Trans Canada Highway (TCH). The town is one of the oldest settlements in Newfoundland, having been found on older European maps dating as far back as the late fifteen hundreds, showing Cape Carverio (Carbonear).
During 1998, Carbonear was pronounced winner of the Provincial Tidy Towns Award. Today the town boasts the comfort of having a modern hospital, schools, colleges, shopping mall, theatre, industrial park and one of the finest recreation complexes in the province.
